Autumnal Equinox Alignment

  • Friends' Central School 1101 City Avenue Wynnewood, PA, 19096 United States (map)

This session will now be led by The Outdoor Chaplain.

This session of Alignment will be in person on the upper campus of Friends’ Central School. 1101 City Ave., Wynnewood, PA. Dr. Deb Skapik will lead us in a meditative walk in honor of the autumnal equinox.

Walk through a scaled model of the inner Solar System and learn how, from Earth's perspective, the Sun aligns on the Celestial Equator twice yearly when there is an equinox. While walking, we will contemplate the vast sizes and separations in our universe, and how our lives align within this schema.

Deborah Skapik is an educator with nearly 30 years of experience teaching astronomy and physics. She has a BA in physics and astrophysics from Swarthmore College, a MS in astronomy from the University of Hawai'i, and did PhD research on colliding galaxies in clusters before teaching at Williams College and the University of Pennsylvania. Now teaching at Friends' Central School and St. Joe's University, she is a Christ Servant Minister in the United Methodist Church.

Join us in person for this opportunity to experience science and faith walking side by side.
